Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda

Written by DG

Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda is one of the most innovative games to come along in quite a while. The Japanese DSi game uses the DSi's internal camera to detect movement and add a 3D element to the game. The actual gameplay is about merely searching a 3D diorama for hidden objects, but the novelty is pretty amazing.

Check it out.

No More Heroes 2 Review

Written by pikaby

A disclaimer before I begin: I have not played the original NMH before, and base my review of this game by itself, with no comparison to the first game.

NMH2 is quite a brutal looking hack n slasher starring master assassin Travis Touchdown. The moves are simple, the action is intense and over the top, and it tickles your funny bone, occasionally. Having conquered the rankings, Travis left Santa Destroy and comes back one day to find himself in the bottom rank. The subsequent story sees him slaying a bunch of bosses to reclaim the #1 spot. Of, course, he has a motive for doing so, if it's a bit...um, small.

Blades of Steel

Introducing Nintendo 5-Star's first guest blog! This Red Steel 2 blog was graciously written by Gamespot's Pierst179, a good, comprehensive blogger who always gets his facts right. Thank you for your contribution!

The Legend of Zelda Wii, whatever subtitle it may eventually get, has good chances of being as revolutionary as Ocarina of Time was at the time of its release. At first, reading such sentence will probably make you feel like ranting about the harms of overhyping a game, or even question the sanity of whoever coined that bold statement, but bear with me. As I have already discussed on a previous blog Nintendo's second generation of motion controls, the Wii Motion Plus, has already shown how it can vastly improve the experience on sports games, but as of today there are no real examples of enhancements in the gameplay of action/adventure titles, a genre that represents the largest part of the big name products that make the industry roll.

Sin & Punishment 2 Trailer

Written by pikaby

Hot on the heels of all that Nintendo news from the Nintendo Media Summit, another trailer(I could've combined the two posts together but whatever). This time it's for Sin & Punishment 2! As mentioned before, it's release date is June 7th this year, and it looks awesome.

Hope they don't get rid of the sub-title, 'Successor to the Sky', because that sounds great on the end of the title.

WarioWare D.I.Y Trailer

Written by pikaby

Finally, a new trailer for the hotly-anticipated game to the WarioWare series, WarioWare D.I.Y! The entire appeal of this is making your own mini-games through a simple programming method, which the game will guide you through. It's already been out in Japan for nearly a year and since then there was no clue when the US version would be out.

Well we should be thankful the localization wasn't scrapped.

Nintendo's Q1 and Q2 lineup revealed for North America!

Written by toadster101

Super Mario Galaxy is set to launch on May 23rd. Sin and Punishment will come out on June 7th, while Metroid: The Other M will hit store shelves 20 days later on June 27th. It's a good time to be a Nintendo gamer. So many AAA games in such a short amount of time. The DSiXL will also launch early this year, along with Monster Hunter Tri. I'm interested to see what games will be announced at this up and coming E3. Perhaps Zelda will be our big holiday game. Stay tuned to Nintendo 5 Star for all important updates.

2010 Nintendo Media Summit!

Written by pikaby

toadster101 from our team tipped me of on this (thanks!). I missed tracking this event. In fact I didn't even know it was going to be tomorrow! Looks like we'll be kept busy with some news updates of our own, together with my own regular blog posts.

What do I think will be revealed there? Knowing Nintendo, they'll probably keep 90 percent of their work under wraps and show us only tiny glimpses. pikaby expects some Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M, and probably some 3rd party stuff too. Red Steel 2 and probably Trauma Team, two more high-profile games to look forward to. There is one more thing that could be there, the Wii Vitality Sensor Iwata was rambling about at last year's E3. We don't even know what the enigmatic new accessory does for the Wii......Well, fingers crossed, then.

Generic boss patterns

Written by pikaby

This must be the weirdest observation I've made between two unrelated and different games. It's the way the final boss battles are set up, the both of them seem so similar that I just had to write about it. Which games?
Probable spoilers, so click below to read more.

DS2 rumoured to have tilt functionality

Written by DG

You're probably aware of all the DS"2" rumours going around. That an upgrade beyond remodeling the same handheld is in development. Something with the two screens of its predecessors, and assumed additional functionality. I've heard all kinds of rumors, from the ridiculous addition of a third screen to a more realistic NATAL-esque sensor that tracks your actual movements.

At a minimum, it's looking pretty much assured that it will have tilt functionality. It looks like Gamefreak of Pokemon fame is already working on something on the new system for you Pokemon fans to look forward to as well. Big news all around if it's true.

Thank you, Kotaku and Siliconera!

Pikachu's in us

Written by pikaby

A piece of relatively old news, but one I'm sure not many of you have known. A protein in our retinas(that's a part of our eyes) was named 'Pikachurin' in 2008. If you want to read more about it you can check it out here. I didn't know about it either until I glanced across a copy of the Guinness World Records, under the video game section. It was the first protein to be named after a video game character. Pikachu is in our bodies. Cool, isn't it?

Them's big words in the article. Even I don't really understand it fully at the moment, but it involves our photoreceptors, which means Pikachurin helps us see stuff. If you know more than this amateur you can feel free to correct me. Haha. :)

5 Games that should be Localized

Written by pikaby

DS and Wii games from Japan that should be localized in the US, just because they are awesome. I'll do myself a favor and avoid the obligatory Mother 3(Earthbound 3) game, because that's what every Nintendo fan wants over at the States and so it isn't really worth explaining further. (Why do I want Mother 3 in English? Because it's awesome!!!!!one!!!1!!) <--Typical response.

About us

Here's a brief rundown on how we started out and how we came to be here with our intrepid little blog and forum.

Nintendo 5-Star first started out as a Kirby fansite, called Kirby 5-Star. You know, it's Kirby, and he's always associated with stars and the like, and that's how I got its name together. It was in August 2006 that I set up Kirby 5-Star as a GameSpot.com 'union'. Unions are GameSpot's version of user groups or clubs, except with a whole section dedicated for articles and a forum to boot, all for free.

About 3 and a half years into running Kirby 5-Star, our moderator, toadster101, was banned from the site. If you want to know more about the ban you can ask him. I'm not responsible for it *wink*. Anyway, because of this we had to move out of Gamespot to keep in touch with him. At the same time Kirby 5-Star wasn't doing so well and we decided to expand our operations outside Gamespot.

Destiny Guy set us into a Sparklit hosted forum, which we also named Kirby 5-Star. Therefore the legacy of us as a Kirby fan site continued here. But development of Kirby games grinded to a halt after the release of Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS, with the long-rumored Kirby Wii nowhere near release, and Kirby fan sites all over the internet were running dry. We were also hard hit and activity was near zero. Think of it like The Great Depression of gaming. Nothing new, nothing to discuss, everyone dead.

So we moved again, on September 2009, to our current forum on InvisionFree, and widened our focus to all things Nintendo and not just the pink puffball. And our current name, Nintendo 5-Star was born.

To head over to our forums, click here! We're looking for members and we hope you can join in as one of us!

Dawn of Generation 5!! Zorua and Zoroark!

Written by johnny139

...excuse my over-the-top phrasing, but this warrants it, doesn't it?

That's right, CoroCoro has revealed two brand new Pokemon; the same mysterious shadow from Pokemon Sunday a few days ago.

The pair are Zorua and Zoroark; a two-stage evolution chain. Both are Dark Type Pokemon; Zorua being the Evil Fox Pokemon and Zoroark a Monster Fox Pokemon. They're expected to star in the next Pokemon Movie, previously known as "Phantom Ruler Z;" we now know that the "Z" is short for Zoroark.

More details are expected in next month's CoroCoro.

(Thanks to Bulbapedia for the images.)

Remember to discuss this story on NINTENDO 5-STAR FORUMS!

Pictorial guide to Route 47, 48

Written by pikaby

In the upcoming Pokemon Heart Gold and Pokemon Soul Silver games,, two new routes and a Safari Zone have been added to the leftmost part of Johto, where Cianwood City is. No doubt some of you internet-savvy types will have already read up on it, or maybe even watched a video on it(don't ask me if it exists or not, it's not something people would want to go out on a limb to record :P). But here's my screenshot guide on both new routes. And the obligatory spoiler warning.

And let the speculation fun begin.
Discuss on our topic on the 5th gen matter. Of course, most of us aren't really big on the next movie, but you'll find movie fans there.

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks review

Written by pikaby

Prior to the review, the reviewer had only been in a train for a couple of times and to tell you the truth, it was pretty bland. Other than looking out at the scenery and all, it was jerky and of course, there was nothing to do except sit/stand while you either read the papers or try to sleep. If you can get any sleep at all, with the kid sitting about 3 rows away screaming his lungs out. At least you get to your destination in time though.

And that's the initial feeling you get when you boot Spirit Tracks up. For the first hour or so, all you can do in your train is move around, change your route and speed and toot your whistle(which I have to admit was pretty cool), which was pretty boring, as the train journey can sometimes be more drawn out than you think(kinda like sailing in the previous Toon Link games). But stick with it however, and the sequel to LoZ Phantom Hourglass doesn't disappoint.
