The Global Trade Station: A Modern-Day Idiot Farm

Written by Pokefreak

We've all seen them. That one Pokemon we dream of having for our team. We can't get them anywhere, no matter how hard we try. So as we turn to the GTS, we find hoardes of that Pokemon. Our dream is about to come true. And... that guy who might give it to you wants a Lv.100 Rampardos for that Lv.24 Ivysaur you want.

This is probably going to turn into a bit of a rant. So if you don't like rants, turn away immediately.

The GTS, first introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, was meant to be used as a way to esily fill up a Pokedec with Pokemon that would be impossible to find. Now and then, I'd offer up a Pokemon for another of equal rarity. I offered a Rankurusu and got a Gochiruzeru in exchange in only a matter of hours. But this is the problem. What happened then is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. As dumb as it sounds, it's true. Check out this picture I snapped from the GTS.

This Pokemon I searched can be found all over the place just after the seventh Gym. I've seen hoardes of them all over the place. At the very bottom is what the man wanted for it. A Lv.60+ Zekrom. A. Level. Sixty and up. Zekrom. Does that sound like a fair trade? Not really. And this is one of the lighter trades you can find. I've seen simple Pokemon offered in exchange for event legendaries like Deoxys.

What people don't understand is that they can't always get what they want. It's impossible to get some legendaries, that's why they're so rare. You can't just half-ass your way through the game and expect everything to work out. I've tried defending the GTS, saying if you need Pokemon, you can just offer something instead of searching. This does normally work, but recently it's started slowing down. Mostly due to the rarity of Pokemon that technically don't even exist yet like Genosekuto. I've seen offers of all sorts of Pokemon, excluding legendaries, for this Pokemon. Every little Pokemon found in Routes 1-4 has been offered for a legendary.

Game Freak, you need to do something about this. How about in Gen 6, or our hopeful R/S remakes, you add a feature to the GTS. Make it so only legendaries can be asked for when offering a legendary. Now we might not see anymore Zekrom while looking for a simple Hiyappu Panpour.

  1. Zekira told me it was hax testing. If people hack the game, there will be people willing to request from them.

And edited Hiyappu's name to US equivalent.

  2. You could've erased Hiyappu instead of just crossing it out.

  3. Also, if people are hacking, they can just hack the Pokemon they see offered for a Zekrom. I don't get how people can't see that.
