Wii, the best selling console worldwide to date + 3DS still selling fine

Recent figures of the three leading consoles show that the Wii has outsold both the Xbox360 and PS3 in total sales to date.   

Official Figures: 

Wii - 95 million
360 - 66 million
PS3 - 62 million 

And the once predicted doomed 3DS is now soaring in sales. especially in Japan: 

1. 3DS: 84,789 (Last week: 80,960)
2. PlayStation 3: 22,924 (21,155)
3. PS Vita: 18,942 (15,219)
4. PSP: 16,008 (17,181)
5. Wii: 10,396 (10,173)
6. Xbox 360: 1235 (1588)
7. DSi XL: 1180 (1200)
8. DSi: 738 (822)
9. PlayStation 2: 713 (903) 

Note that sales are subject to change in a flash, but it's great to see Nintendo's consoles doing great after all the predictions of gloom and doom.

DSi XL pulls ahead in Japan's Weekly Sales

The Japanese weekly sales charts from June 14 to 20 saw the DSi XL (or rather, LL as it's known over there) pull off a rare stunt as it dominated the hardware charts, pulling ahead of even the regular DSi and the leader for the past few months, the PSP. What happened? Part of it was because of the three new colors for the DSi LL, and also because they are now priced 2000 yen cheaper. Yep, there was a price cut.

New DS color for cheap. Which Japanese person could resist?

As for software, Super Mario Galaxy 2 fever continues throughout the world (though not as fervent as the slightly blander New Super Mario Bros. Wii. THIS should get all the attention dammit) and reclaims the first position from newly released Xenoblade (yep, it's out in Japan now. Want? Yeah, me neither. Okay, maybe). Ghost Trick also made a good first impression, debuting in second. And Tomodachi Collection doesn't die. Ever.

While PSP sales were still going strong thanks to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (I didn't blog about the sales last week, but the PSP was through the roof that time- more than 100k units!), Nintendo is fast catching up. Again. DS sales buoyed partly by the release of Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2, and the Wii still riding on New Super Mario Bros. Wii's success. I'd love to think that people are buying Wiis because Galaxy 2 is nearly out, but then I don't know if that's the case.

Nearly six years after launching in Japan, the DS has reached 30 million units sold(combined sales of DS Phat, DS Lite and DSi) while the top selling games are New Super Mario Bros., Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Animal Crossing: Wild World. I bet Nintendogs and Brain Age are somewhere right below them too.

Global sales of the DS is more than 125 million units sold, which I reckon is just 15 million or so shy of the PS2's lifetime sales. Go catch up! Just a little more!
