3DS games on WarioWare DIY

And again I sigh at my own crap and wonder how people come up with this stuff.

WarioWare DIY: Nintendo Week 3

Written by pikaby

Well, Nintendo has officially run out of developers to get free games from. Let's see how long it'll be till they exhaust the entirety of the Nintendo Power editorial board. They're getting half-hearted- this match-em-up game featuring the Nintendo Power team isn't great. The guy in charge of it, Chris Hoffman(a name you probably have heard of more than once) didn't clean up his messy AI before shipping the game. You'll spot the bugs easily, although it is technically still winnable. Oh well.

WarioWare DIY: Nintendo Week 2

Written by pikaby

Nintendo are pulling a Picross DS on us now, aren't they? If all future big name games are from Nintendo Power...then I don't really know. Oh well, at least this one's well designed. Reversal of roles! Be the Goomba knocking Mario out! Strange that Mario's coming out of the finish castle though.

Made by Steve Thomason of....Nintendo Power.

WarioWare DIY: Nintendo Power

Written by pikaby

Is it safe to say now that Nintendo have run out of developers to feature microgames online? Two weeks ago we had Gary and Alison's microgames from their stint on Nintendo Week(which is nice), and now they turn to their official magazine, Nintendo Power, for content. This microgame called Funky Boxing, is a Punch-Out-esque game made by said magazine's chief editor, Chris Slate. Punch when the opponent has his guard down, three times. Magnificent sprite work there.

WarioWare DIY: Nintendo Week

Written by pikaby

Watched Nintendo Week lately? Hosts Gary and Alison may not be the best actors on the planet, but they did make a clever little WarioWare DIY feature spanning two weeks of shows, which resulted in them 'graduating' from a game-making university headed by a crackpot professor, and succeeded in making their own games. I've always wondered why their games never showed up here for download by fans of the show, even if they are just simple tap microgames.

WarioWare DIY: Todd Lewis Made It Too

Written by pikaby

Apparently Nintendo aren't done quite yet with the Big Name Games. This week it's 5th Cell's Todd Lewis making his microgame, which has no relation to any of the games the studio developed (Drawn to Life, Scribblenauts), but is still a fine piece of work, unlike that other game last week with the Super Meat Boy creator....you can practically feel that wave of disinterest. Todd shows a tad more enthusiasm. And you can download his bird minigame starting today! Wonder if Level-5 will be getting on the action? Or Miyamoto himself?

WarioWare DIY: Edmund McMillen Made It Too

Written by pikaby

Co-creator of Super Meat Boy, Edmund Mcmillen makes a Meat Boy microgame on Warioware DIY this time! Not to nit pick, but when you've played the game you'll notice some inconsistencies in the AI. Meat Boy, after finishing the game, will keep on running if you tap him a second time.

None of the other Big Name Games were sloppy, so this is quite a minor slip-up on his part. Not to mention the pixel art he made was definitely way behind WayForward Games' offering(the Shantae game). You can literally sense his lack of enthusiasm when making his microgame, as compared to the other big names. Maybe he's just busy, I dunno. Super Meat Boy isn't a Wiiware exclusive anymore, mind. Oh well, another week, another developer game.

WarioWare DIY: Matt Bozons Made It Too

Written by pikaby
This week's Big Name Game for Warioware D.I.Y comes from Matt Bozons, of WayForward Games. Another superb game developer behind stuff like Boy and his Blob(the Wii-make), LIT (Wiiware), Contra 4, and the upcoming Shantae: Risky's Revenge(DSiWare).

This guy's pixel art is crazy good. Look at all the details! Quite a cool technique of using prototype art before placing the real thing in. Although....about the tiles, he could've used the custom palettes instead of Copy/Paste.

Too bad he never talked about Risky's Revenge during his stint with Warioware. I'm sure we'd all like to hear some info about it, anything.

WarioWare DIY: Alex Neuse Made It Too

Written by pikaby

Who's he? He's the one behind the Bit.trip series on WiiWare, and the president of Gaijin Games, one of the more illustrious indie developers to come out in recent years. And now he's making a microgame on WarioWare DIY. Thank him then, that his microgame's got something to do with the games he's actually made.

Make a microgame and win a trip to E3!

Written by pikaby

If you're a gamer, this kind of news beats getting a trip around Europe, anytime of the year. Being able to play demos of games before they're out? Being able to listen to CEOs of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo prattle on about sales figures and showing off new games? Nothing like it in the world.

MULTIPLY that with the fact that this is probably going to be the most exciting E3 of all time (3DS, PS Move and Project Natal announcements, Pikmin 3 and Metroid Other M demos), and you have epicness.

And Nintendo are giving away two tickets to enter E3 this year, if you win its Warioware D.I.Y contest. Own the game? Submit your most creative, funny, and crazy microgames based on the given themes to the official site, wariowarediy.com. Contest ends May 16th!

Me? I don't live in the US. Count me out. More than half of Nintendo 5-Star's staff members are eligible, though. I'll be at home watching the winners go to E3 with the most jealous face I can make ever.

EDIT: Oops, you can only go to the Nintendo presentation. Still epic, considering the importance of E3 2010 to every game making company.

WarioWare D.I.Y Featured Games

Written by pikaby

Warioware D.I.Y. may be out today but it's already been out in Japan for some time. Let's give a tribute to some of the masterpieces they've made...If you want, just type in(or copy off here) 'メイドイン俺' into Youtube's search box and you'll find a lot of great/decent microgames. But watch out...whenever user-generated content is concerned there's SURE to be um....games with more suggestive themes in them. Look, you can find out for yourself, but right now here's some of the microgames I've been impressed with.

Celebrity D.I.Y.

Written by pikaby

In anticipation of the upcoming Warioware D.I.Y, Nintendo have begun getting game developers to make microgames for their download system. It's called 'Big Name Games' or something. Kinda like the Flipnote Central in Hatena where celebrities and the like make their own (crappy) flipnotes. Some of them were good, others were just the same old stuff with a name tacked onto it....But enough about that.

The Big Name Games will be available for download as soon as the game is out, and currently will include microgames from studs like Masahiro Sakurai(of Kirby and Smash Bros. fame), Yoshio Sakamoto(from Metroid), and the bods from 5th Cell, WayForward Games, Pixel, Gaijin Games, and Team Meat.

Come on, Sakurai! Give us a Kirby microgame or something.

In light of that I do hope I'll see the other studios come up with microgame versions of their good games. Nintendo made a load of good picks, those are my favorite developers right now. Bit.trip Microgame!
